From the Garden to the Kitchen to the Table features works in a variety of media created by 32 Belmont artists. Sharing a theme of gardening, farming and bringing the harvest to the home, this art was created in response to the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver which chronicles the Kingsolver family’s adventures eating locally-produced food for one year, relying in part on food they raised on their farm in southern Appalachia.

From the Garden to the Kitchen to the Table is held in conjunction with Belmont Public Library’s One Book One Belmont community-wide reading program, which will run from September 9 to October 8. During this program, our community will join in reading and discussing Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. The title was selected to celebrate Belmont’s farming heritage in honor of the town’s 150th anniversary this year.

The Belmont Gallery of Art (BGA) is proud to join as a co-sponsor of One Book One Belmont, focusing our 2009 biennial Belmont Only show on the theme of local sustainable agriculture. Together with the Belmont Public Library, we join in celebration of Belmont’s Sesquicentennial this year and the community-wide reading program and its goals: to build a spirit of community by bringing together individuals and groups through book-related events and discussions; and to promote reading as an enjoyable and mind-opening activity.

For more information on One Book One Belmont, contact the Belmont Public Library.
