Boston Printmakers Members Show 2010

Opening Reception: Friday, October 15, 6 – 8 p.m.
Print Talk by Artist Members: Sunday, November 7, 2:00 p.m.

The Belmont Gallery of Art is pleased to present thINK, a traveling exhibition produced by the Boston Printmakers, a North American artist organization founded in 1947. As the title “thINK” may indicate, this show is indeed an educational exhibition as it begins to answer questions about technique printmakers are so often confronted with such as,

How are prints made?
Please explain this technique.
How many steps does that involve?

Prints make people thINK. This show aims to answer these questions as well as to highlight individual developments and the rich talent prevalent across the Boston Printmakers membership.

Each print in this show has an accompanying “recipe card” created by the artists sharing the inspiration and process for the piece. The Boston Printmakers president, Marc Cote reflects upon the show saying, “Membership really captured the spirit of the show’s theme, sending in images that are innovative and diverse, and accompanying those works with thoughful, clever interpretations of the “recipe card”. The range of intention in each print medium is extensive and captivating.

Founded in 1947 by a small group of students and faculty at the Boston Museum School and the Massachusetts College of Art, The Boston Printmakers membership soon grew to include not only local artists but also those from other parts of the United States as well as England and Canada. The organization flourished during the postwar period and today continues to support and promote innovation in the field of printmaking. To apply for membership, professional printmakers are required to submit recent work through a jury process. More information about the organization is available at www.bostonprintmakers.org.
