Books on the Charles celebrates the work of artists who have created illustrations for picture books by award-winning children’s book publisher Charlesbridge Publishing. For 25 years, this Watertown, MA-based independent publisher of children’s fiction and non-fiction has been committed to their mission: to inform and fascinate. Over those years, “Charlesbridge has built a reputation for books with engaging, accurate text and bold, detailed illustrations.” Offering a highly attentive, collaborative team, Charlesbridge has become a “destination publisher for authors and illustrators alike.”
This special exhibit features fifteen New England-area artists who have created illustrations for Charlesbridge Publishing. The original works in the Books on the Charles exhibit display a wide range of artistic techniques and visual storyteling styles ranging from whimsical pen and ink line drawings to three-dimensional collages to delicate impressionistic watercolors to bold and realistic acrylic paintings to textured linocuts–with each page displayed reflecting the artist’s unique approach to best conveying the text of a picture book.
