Group Exhibit of i3C Artists
Curator: Adriana G. Prat
Assistant to the Curator: Martha Heller
The environmental crisis affects everything and everyone on our planet: lands and oceans, our species, and all other species we find on Earth. Pollution, extreme weather, loss of biodiversity are some of the manifestations of the crisis, and the obvious social impact: climate injustice. All too complex and yet too urgent. When we hear or read about it, or when we experience it firsthand, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless at the magnitude of the problem. We wonder, “How can I contribute to the solution?”
Each i3C Artist has wondered about our role in the solution of this urgent global issue. Our art is inspired by nature and climate science, and it is our tool to inspire action and solutions; our activism.
We are 20 multidisciplinary artists from New England, New York, Pennsylvania, and Canada, diverse in backgrounds and art practices, sharing a personal and artistic commitment to the environmental crisis.
In our artistic explorations:
- Some of us address the impact of consumerism by reinventing reclaimed materials, or by creating a dialog with humanity’s waste and pollution
- Some explore the effect of climate change in our local communities or global ecosystems
- Others celebrate natural beings, their interconnection, unique beauty and vulnerabilities, and even point to the spiritual and moral obligation we humans should have towards our common habitat
As a group, we believe that change is not only possible but also a necessary and powerful element for critical environmental transformation.
We invite you to explore the complex feelings that the environmental crisis can bring while observing each of these artworks. We hope you feel a sense of wonder in the natural world!
Can you find one or more actions, of any size and dimension, that you can implement in your life to contribute to the ripple effect needed to resolve this global crisis?
Let’s act together!
Our joint force is fierce and the world is watching!
