Monster Misunderstood – Call for Art

Deadline: September 15, 2018

The Art of Frankenstein

Belmont Public Library
(Oct. 1-Nov.17, 2018)

The Belmont Gallery of Art is looking for artists to submit work that creatively interprets Mary Shelley’s classic novel, “Frankenstein.”
The BGA’s “Monster Misunderstood” exhibit is in collaboration with the Belmont Public Library’s One Book One Belmont town-wide read of Frankenstein. “Monster Misunderstood” is the featured inaugural show of the BGA’s new gallery partnership with the library.

With themes that include nature, science, identity, prejudice, isolation, alienation and family, Shelley’s Frankenstein–though originally published 200 years ago–still has a resonance to the many difficult issues that face our world today. The BGA encourages artists to explore such issues and themes in their submissions to the “Monster Misunderstood” exhibit.

Both 2 and 3D media accepted for “Monster Misunderstood” including: textiles, ceramics, assemblage, painting, collage,/mixed media, drawings, prints and photography.

Deadline for online submissions is September 15

IMPORTANT!  Please note: There is no Prospectus for the Monster Misunderstood show. Call is open to artists 18 and older.
All submissions to the exhibit should be sent directly by email to:
BGA Director Rebecca Richards at: admin@belmontgallery.org

One submission per artist.
Please include Frankenstein Submission in the subject line.
Images submitted should be hi-res jpg.
Application fee $10 payable at Drop-Off.
Deadline for online submissions is Sept. 15 at 6pm.
Artists notified of acceptance by Sept. 19. 18
Please contact the BGA with any questions. We look forward to seeing your work. Thank you!

Family Ties – One Book One Belmont – Call for Art

Deadline: March 20, 2016

An exhibit inspired by Anita Diamant’s “The Boston Girl”

The Belmont Gallery of Art invites artists to submit work for its upcoming juried “Family Ties” exhibit, inspired by author Anita Diamant’s “The Boston Girl.” This is the book selected for the Belmont Public Library’s 2016 One Book, One Belmont Town-wide read event.

Diamant’s best-selling novel tells the story of 85-year-old Addie Baum, recounting her life growing up in Boston’s neighborhoods in the early 20th century. The novel touches upon several themes, but family and family relationships are central to the story. How one interprets the theme of “family” is left up to each individual artist.

Artists working in visual arts media including painting, photography, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, collage, flat fiber art, digital media and sculpture may submit up to three (3) pieces for consideration.

For more information about One Book One Belmont, visit their website.

The Boston Girl’s author Anita Diamant will give a talk in Belmont, on April 26 as part of this year’s One Book One Belmont event.

Celebrate: 10th Anniversary Show

Deadline: August 31, 2015

It’s our 10th anniversary! That’s right, the Belmont Gallery of Art opened its doors to the public for the very first time in July 2005. In the years that followed, we mounted over 60 unique, compelling, inspirational exhibits showcasing the talents of several hundred local and regional artists from New England and beyond. The BGA has also enlightened and entertained thousands of visitors, and served as an anchor and outlet for Belmont’s own prodigious community of artists. Now, that’s something to celebrate!

To mark this extraordinary milestone, the BGA plans a 10th Anniversary Show — fittingly entitled “Celebrate!” — to honor the work of the many artists who made our first ten years a rousing success. The show will feature one work from each participating artist. If your work has been exhibited at the Gallery at any time, the BGA invites you to submit NEW work for inclusion in our anniversary show.

Download application form.
