More Than Words – Call for Art

January 1 to February 1, 2022

Art Inspired by Books and Poems

In collaboration with the Belmont Public Library’s ONE BOOK ONE BELMONT
Community Read of  “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean

Just as a library
is more than a temple of books,
a book is More Than Words.

Imagination is kindled to life by stories and poems, transported in time and place, provoked into emotion, guided to new knowledge. The Belmont Gallery of Art is asking for art inspired by books and poems for this Fall Exhibit: More Than Words in collaboration with the Belmont Public Library’s ONE BOOK ONE BELMONT community read of “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean.

Share your unique artistic vision inspired by a particular book or poem, or interpret what books mean to you in general.  Like a library, the subjects are practically limitless: fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, mystery, historical fiction, history, science, philosophy, literature, short stories, mythology, poetry, drama, modern, old or ancient… and more.

The BGA is asking artists to submit work in a variety of media – painting, collage, mixed media, ceramics, photography, assemblage, fiber art and more – both two dimensional and three dimensional work.

Facing You – Call for Art

Oct. 28 to Nov. 22, 2020

A Portraits Show

There is nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face.”

Irvin Kershner
KayHudgins-selfportrait
Kay Hudgins
RickCorbett-selfportrait
Rick Corbett

The human face has been an endless source of inspiration and fascination for artists since the beginning of civilization. During these trying months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve lost that shared immediate facial recognition and emotional connection to others–whether it be a smile, a frown or even an angry grimace–since our faces have been covered by protective masks.

For the BGA’s first all Virtual Art Exhibit, we’re asking artists to submit portraits–of yourself and of others–as the gallery celebrates the common features, yet uniqueness of each human face–and the stories those faces tell.

Information

The BGA is looking for both 2 and 3D portraits created in a variety of media including painting, printmaking, collage, clay, textiles and photography for the exhibit.
NEW Submissions Deadline: Dec. 3, 9PM
Fees: $10 Per Submission; $15 Up to Three

Full Exhibit Details and Photographing Art Requirements Coming on Nov. 2, including information on the BGA’s new Virtual Gallery Site.

(Oct. 1-Nov.17, 2018)

The Belmont Gallery of Art is looking for artists to submit work that creatively interprets Mary Shelley’s classic novel, “Frankenstein.”

Both 2 and 3D media accepted for “Monster Misunderstood” including: textiles, ceramics, assemblage, painting, collage,/mixed media, drawings, prints and photography.

Deadline for online submissions is September 15
