Thanks to a generous grant from the Belmont Cultural Council, the Belmont Art Association (BAA) was able to award stipends to 7 artists (5 this year and 2 in 2020) to paint utility boxes. The community project was filmed by the Belmont Media Center and photographed by BAA members, Dari Paquette and Janet Smith.

The New Works exhibition of the Belmont Art Association (BAA) offers an opportunity to see the recent works of artists—both amateur and professional—who live and work in our community. Showcasing work by BAA members, the exhibit includes work in a wide variety of media from painting, drawing, printmaking and collage, to sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and photography.

Founded in 2013, the Belmont Art Association’s mission is to “create a community of and for Belmont-based visual artists by sharing information and resources and creating opportunities to display their work.” For more information about the organization visit their website.

Special Events: BAA Art-Making Workshops (Free)!

The Belmont Art Association (BAA), in partnership with the Belmont Gallery of Art (BGA), presents a series of four special summer art-making events on Thursday evenings. All workshops take place 7-9pm at the Belmont Gallery of Art.

Thurs., June 29: DRAWING PORTRAITS

Rick Corbett. Corbett, an award winning pencil artist/portraitist will demonstrate his personal process of creating a portrait based on light as well as structure to capture the personality of his subject. An example of Corbett’s work is below:

Thurs., July 13: KUMIHIMO NECKLACE WORKSHOP

Naomi Ellenberg-Dukas, of DukasDesigns, will demonstrate Japanese beaded braiding to create a single strand kumihimo bracelet. This technique has unlimited designs and varying degrees of complexity, but this will start with the basics. Materials will be supplied to 10 attendees (by lottery to those present). Naomi is President of Beadesigner International/New England Bead Society.

Thurs., July 20: SIMPLIFIED ANATOMY

Drawing the Human Figure from Imagination and Life – led by Damon Lehrer. Lehrer has taught at RISD, Boston University, Art Institute of Boston, Mass College of Art, and Montserrat College of Art. Founder of Boston Figurative Art Center, Somerville.

Thurs July 27: LIVE MODEL SESSION

Come try your hand at drawing a clothed live model. BAA artists will be on hand to offer tips and advice to workshop attendees.

Art supplies will be provided for workshop attendees. Some events will feature brief talks by participating BAA artists about their individual art-making techniques and influences. Refreshments will be served. Free admission.

Eligibility: Artists 19 years of age and over who are paid members of the Belmont Art Association as of May 30, 2015.

Application Deadline: Saturday, May 30, 2015 ‐ EMAIL application form with images to admin@belmontgallery.org.

Notification of Acceptances and Rejections: by June 4, 2015.

Drop Off of Artwork: Tuesday, June 9, 4-8pm.
Drop off artwork with application, $10 entry fee (check written to “Town of Belmont” or cash only), labels and inventory list.

Opening Reception: June 12, 6-8pm

Closing Reception: September 11, 6-8pm

An exhibition of the members of the Belmont Art Association

Artists’ Reception: Sunday, February 9, 1 – 4 p.m.
Sunday Salons: Sunday, March 2 and March 9, 2 p.m.

Belmont Seen, the inaugural exhibition of the Belmont Art Association, announces the Association’s arrival to the community and offers an opportunity to meet many of the artists–both amateur and professional–who live and work in our midst. Showcasing work by 27 BAA members, the eclectic exhibit includes work in a variety of media from painting, drawing, printmaking and collage, to sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry design, and photography.

Founded in 2013, the Belmont Art Association’s mission is to “create a community of and for Belmont-based visual artists by sharing information and resources and creating opportunities to display their work.” For more information about the organization visit their website.

Additional programming during Belmont Seen will include Sunday Artist Salons to be held on March 2 (more information here) and March 9 at 2:00 p.m. Sure to be of interest to art appreciators, collectors and other artists as well, participating artists in each session will discuss a range of topics such as inspiration, motivation, thought processes, techniques, etc.
